It's the end of our first day in Alsace and all the hustle and bustle of Paris seems a distant memory.
We arrived at Lycee Yourcenar this morning in the pouring rain, but inside we found a tasty breakfast of fresh croissants, hot chocolate and Kougelof waiting for us (Watch the short video below and the photo album - link) After taking a tour of the school, the clouds parted, and a double rainbow arched over the Vosges Mountains as we headed out for a trip to the World War II memorial at Schirmeck. Our guide, Philippe told us the amazing history of how Alsace was first French, then German, then French and German again before finally becoming what it is today: a unique region of France whose identity is a fascinating and complex mix of the two cultures.
