WINE ROAD...BUFFET...STRASBOURG...
On Friday our driver Maurice took us on a beautiful ride through the rolling hills, vineyard, and quaint villages of Alsace’s wine country (la Route du Vin). We tasted a trio of Alsacian vintages (a Riesling, a Pinot Gris, and a flavorful Gewurtztraminer) at the old Lorenz winery before heading for lunch at a little hotel perched on a hilltop overlooking the valley and vineards. On our way back to Erstein we stopped for a brief walk and some shopping in the perfectly preserved village of Obernai. Then the party began back at school where French parents greeted us with a dinner of dozens of cheeses, and Alsatian specialties. Rodney got the troops dancing on the dance floor and a really great time was had by all.(watch videos below)
Saturday morning dawned warm and sunny as we finally got to Alsace’s capital, Strasbourg, where we met Mr. Steinmetz in front of the towering cathedral of Notre Dame for a walking tour of the old city. We had the rest of the day free to explore the city with our French partners
